Components

Sterling Silver

Sterling Silver consists of 92.5 % pure silver and 7.5 % of another metal. Sterling Silver should be cleaned with a silver polishing cloth and kept within a jewelry box when you are not wearing it as it will then retain it’s beautifully shiny appeal.

Gold

14ct Gold is the most favoured as it has a long life. It consists of 14 parts pure gold, 10 parts of which are other metals.

18ct Gold has a darker appearance and is rather soft.

24ct Gold is pure made up of 100 % solid gold.

Pewter

Pewter is now available lead free, it is one of the most versatile metals, not only suitable for jewelry but also a fabulously essential metal for the unique utensils in your home that we will be adding later this year to the site.

Some jewelry components are made of pewter, be they charms or pendants which are completed with an enamel coating to create a beautifully shiny piece and pewter is traditionally a dull metal.

Silver and Gold Finish

Normally the base metal has been electroplated with gold or silver. Not as expensive as gold filled pieces, however, definitely more costly than gold plated. The precious metal which the finished layer consists of is considerably thicker than the plated layer.

Gold Filled

Gold filled metals are made up of gold combined with a base metal, normally copper. This metal has a long life and is less expensive than pure gold. Perfect for earrings, chains and bracelets.

Pearls

One can find pearls in all shapes and sizes, most pearls these days are cultured. Natural pearls are the most expensive and rare.

Cultured Pearls

These pearls have intentionally had an irritant inserted into the mussel or oyster. The greatest percentage of pearls now are cultured.

Salt Water pearls are grown in oysters and Freshwater pearls in mussels. Salt Water pearls are more costly to produce as oysters only contain one or two pearls. Freshwater mussels produce 40 – 50 pearls each.

The rounder the pearl, the greater the luster and the more expensive it is.

Care Of Pearls

Use a little soap and water as jewelry cleaning fluids/cloths may be too abrasive and over time cause pearls to lose their luster.

Crystals

Crystals have become very popular, these beads are so versatile due to their differing colours, shapes and finishes. Swarovski and Czech crystals are widely used and used together these can produce and exceptional design.

We often design a unique piece for a specific client representing the colour of their Birthstone. A great idea for a friend or loved one’s birthday, this combined with 925 silver makes for a design which will last a lifetime…
